A grand launch event to introduce new businesses to their friends, relatives, potential investors and future customers has become a tradition on the Sunshine Coast, and part of graduating LEAP (Local Entrepreneur Accelerator Program).

This year’s cohort of local entrepreneurs are getting ready to pitch their NEW social enterprises to you!
 
Join us for our popular annual event and enjoy refreshments by Emelle’s Bistro, a cash bar, schmoozing with a entrepreneurial crowd, and the pitches from the Coast’s newest ventures.
 
Always a dynamic evening, the LEAP! Launch Party includes the People’s Choice Award (selected by YOU), and features new social enterprises – businesses that make a positive social impact on our community.
“Social entrepreneurs make up the heart of small communities,” says Janice Iverson, Community Futures Executive Director, “They contribute to the community on multiple fronts: providing employment, quality products and services, while at the same time addressing pressing social or environmental issues.

The 2019 Barrie Wilbee Bursary for Sunshine Coast Entrepreneurs – 2019 Grant Application

Financial support for you to further advance your education or general knowledge in business or social enterprise development.

Community Futures Sunshine Coast is seeking a local entrepreneur who could use $500 to further advance their education or general knowledge in business or social enterprise development.

The funds will come from a bursary created through an endowment three years ago, known as the Barrie Wilbee Bursary for Sunshine Coast Entrepreneurs. Barrie and his wife Bev will present the award during the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation’s annual granting ceremony Monday, June 17th.

“We’re excited to support emerging business leaders who are committed to growing and advancing the Sunshine Coast through responsible business practices,” says Barrie. “We recognize it’s not easy for start-up entrepreneurs especially, to free up time and cash for ongoing learning and development, and we hope this bursary will help.”

The Barrie Wilbee Bursary for Sunshine Coast Entrepreneurs is open to Sunshine Coast residents, and their immediate family members. Applicants should be able to describe what type of course, workshop, personal development, or seminar they are interested in taking, and how financial support would help advance personal leadership of their business or social enterprise.

HOW TO APPLY

Any resident of the Sunshine Coast or an immediate family member of a resident is eligible to apply.

The deadline for applications is 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 6th.

On one page, please include the following:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Describe your small business or social enterprise 200 words
  • Share some evidence that your venture is at least in the early start up phase (beyond the idea stage)
  • What will the bursary be used for (Specific. Include link or contact info)
  • When will you take the course (must be complete by date here)
  • Describe how this bursary will help to advance your venture 150 words
  • Are there any current obstacles in the way of you taking the course?

A group of local volunteers, including Barrie Wilbee will review all applications and award the grant on June 12th. The successful candidate will be notified within 48 hours.

NOTE: The winner of the grant must be able to attend in person the granting ceremony at the Gibsons Public Market at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 17th.
