A Steady Hand Through Change: Thank You, Vickie Morris!

Updated: Apr 17

Vickie Morris is stepping away from the Community Futures Development Corporation of the Sunshine Coast (CFDC-SC) board after nine years with us.

Vickie joined the CFDC-SC board in 2016 after hearing about our work through a volunteer stint on the District of Sechelt’s Community Investment Committee.

She stepped out of her comfort zone of land use planning and social infrastructure development to see if there was a contribution she could make in economic development with us here on the Coast.

It turned out to be a turbulent time. Major changes in CFDC-SC staff, the creation of the impact investment startup, Rhiza Capital—launched in partnership with Sunshine Coast Credit Union and Powell River Community Investment Corporation—a pandemic that upended small businesses and life generally, and the eventual recognition that, while effective at supporting startups in the social and environmental arenas, Rhiza was not going to be the source of income we had hoped.

Vickie’s role through all of that was largely keeping a steady hand on the tiller.

She is confident that the leadership team now is ideally suited to the current economic climate, and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the community through the District of Sechelt’s Planning Advisory Committee.

Thank you, Vickie, for your dedication, wisdom, and calm leadership over the past nine years. We’re deeply grateful for your contributions and wish you all the best in your continued service to the Sunshine Coast.

Vickie has been a calm, steadying presence during some of the most challenging and transformative years this organization has seen. Her thoughtful leadership, quiet confidence, and deep care for this community helped guide us through major transitions and uncertainty, always with grace. I’ve learned a great deal from serving alongside her, and I know I’m not alone in that. We will miss her presence on the board, but her legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Community Futures Sunshine Coast
